How many students will be at Camp Choice during a 3-day session?

Each 3-day session can accommodate up to 400 students.  However, during their stay students will be staying with their own classmates when taking part in the workshops and other college games/activities.  As well, all residence rooms for each school will be located side-by-side of each other.

Where do your Camp Counselors come from?

All of our counselors are current students of Humber College and The University of Guelph Humber. Staff members undergo in-person training as well as extensive background checks each spring. At Camp Choice, our staff is family! Each member of our team comes to us with a blend of spirit, energy, enthusiasm, and experience with kids. Our goal is to ensure that every returning camp counselor along with new individuals bring a fresh perspective to camp.

Which meals are provided?

All meals are included with our program, starting with dinner on the first day right through to lunch on the last day.

Should I be sending extra money with my son/daughter?

Extra money isn't necesary. However, at the end of your stay at Camp Choice your teacher has the option of taking you through the Humber Bookstore where other Humber souvenirs can be purchased (sweatshirts, clocks, pens, books, etc.)

What safety measures are taken in this program?

Risk management is our number one priority. Our staff supervises ALL classes, activities, dining and boarding. At night, all students sleep in the secure student residence building with access controlled by individually registered key cards. We have both male and female counselors that will stay in separate rooms on the same floor as the students, generally near exits and stairwells. Every staff member is required to undergo a background check. All of our staff are CPR & First Aid Certified.

In addtion each night from 11:00pm to 7:00am, a campus security guard will patrol the floors occupied by Camp Choice. As well as the security guard, Humber’s residence also has a 24 hour front desk which monitors access to the building. Camp Choice counsellors and your teacher(s) also share floors with the students and in emergencies will be awakened to deal with the situation.

Is Camp Choice a suitable environment for a student with special needs?

While Camp Choice is not specifically a special needs camp, we have had many special needs students attend our camp in the past and they typically
do well in our program. However we do ask that you contact us in advance to ensure this is possible for your student.

What happens if it rains?

Although we can not guarantee what weather we will have during your session, we will try to make subtitutions to the program when possible to accommodate for the weather.

What should students bring to camp?

At Camp Choice we dress for the outdoors and comfort. With this in mind be sure to pack for changes in weather, so in addtion to shorts and t-shirts dont forget long pants sweaters and rain gear. Essential amenities are also imortant, toothpaste, soap, towels etc. students do not have to bring linens, they are provided.
